Historic City News reporters observed that the City of St. Augustine Department of Public Works is continuing to make sidewalk improvements along Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.

Deputies exchange gunfire on domestic call

St. Johns County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that one man is in the hospital and three deputies are on administrative leave after a shooting incident that occurred in Hastings last night.

St. Johns County fire risk is high

Due to increasingly dry conditions in the area, St. Johns County Fire Rescue has reported to Historic City News local reporters that residents must use caution and remain aware of the daily weather conditions in order to protect themselves from the danger of brush fires.

Road conditions may get hazardous tonight

St. Johns County officials have notified Historic City News that drivers are urged to use extra caution on roadways and sidewalks tonight as another hard freeze warning is in effect from 10:00 p.m. Tuesday until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

City employees receive smaller bonuses

In their regular business meeting last night, St. Augustine City Commissioners approved an expenditure of $28,000 for holiday bonuses to city workers.

Over objections – City buys troubled property

In a 3-2 split vote last night, with freshman commissioner Bill Leary and Vice Mayor Leanna Freeman objecting, Historic City News watched as Mayor Joe Boles and Commissioners Nancy Sikes-Kline and Errol Jones decided it was best for the City to purchase the property at the corner of Bridge Street and Martin Luther King Avenue.
