Roberts charged with first degree murder

Homicide Detectives with The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office have notified Historic City News reporters that earlier today; they obtained, and served, an arrest warrant on 26-year old transient Joseph Dean Roberts charging him with the murder of 45-year old South Ponte Vedra resident Brittany Jeniveve Tavar.

Historic City News reporters watched as Robert A. Bentz, a principal in Land Design South in West Palm Beach, and development partner for the new Vilano Town Center grocery store site with Joe Lelonek, spoke before the St. Johns County Commission in their regular business meeting this morning.

First 1,621 early votes cast in General Election

St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections, Penny Halyburton, reported to Historic City News the results of the first day of early voting in the November 2, 2010 General Election.

Semi-annual Florida Uniform Crime Report

Historic City News received word from Governor Charlie Crist and Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey, that crime in Florida is down 4.8 percent for the first half of 2010 over the same period last year.

Tax Collector returns money to county for 21 years

Historic City News has learned that St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis W. Hollingsworth, CFC, will present the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners and taxing authorities $5,028,426.34 at its regular meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 19th.

Positive ID of victim at gruesome crime scene

The District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Terrence Steiner, has released his report to Historic City News following an autopsy examination of human remains recovered October 14th by St. Johns County Sheriff’s deputies in a heavily wooded area off of SR-207 and Lightsey Road.
