In the fatal collision of a truck and pedestrian Saturday morning, police announced that they made an arrest and were continuing their investigation — Historic City News has learned more shocking details, including allegations of a plot to destroy evidence of the crime.

Just before 11:30 p.m. last night, 19 year-old Derek Lee Mrasak, who resides at 3895 South Francis Road in Saint Augustine, was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run accident that occurred in the wee hours of Saturday morning, according to Sergeant Michael Etheridge with the St. Augustine Police Department.

St. Johns County Traffic Unit Deputy J.D. McGinnis told Historic City News reporters that they responded to a head on crash between two vehicles on Coastal Highway A1A North at the intersection of Gardner Avenue in Vilano Beach before midnight last night.
