Media relations officer Dee Brown reported to Historic City News this morning that the St Augustine Police Department is actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred about 8:45pm last night.
The Waterworks Building on San Marco Avenue will be opened for a docent-led walking tour on Saturday, January 25th. There is no charge for admission, however space is limited and registration is required in advance.

Cheryl Freeman, director of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of St Johns County, reported to Historic City News that the St. Johns County School District Volunteer Services department will be hosting a Mentor Fair on Wednesday, February 5th from 8:30am – 11:30am, at the Fullerwood Center Auditorium, 10 Hildreth Drive in St. Augustine.
The 60-days to come will be perilous for taxpayers in Florida, because the legislature is in session. State senators and representatives will be advancing their favorite Bills while the hallways of the Capitol become a campground for lobbyists.
Mayor Tracy Upchurch and city attorney Isabelle C. Lopez were placed on notice this month that should the city attempt to impose weekly minimum rental requirements on short-term rentals, they will go afoul of state law and open the city to the cost of otherwise avoidable litigation.
Historic City News will be reporting on three separate resolutions that come before the St Augustine City Commission on Monday evening. Two marine issues will be discussed; a resolution to fund Salt Run dredging and another authorizing a plan for derelict vessel removal. Also on the table, community shareholders and the developer of Flagler Crossing will continue the debate over rezoning the North City property.

Every year in January, Brenda Parker returns to the community where she and her husband Ron were living in 1975. The young couple moved to St Augustine from their home in New Jersey where Ron served as one of the youngest members of his police department. He was 27 years old.
