Beach commission wraps up continuation of Monday meeting

The City of St. Augustine will continue the annual tradition of holding its Ceremony of Remembrance, a community gathering to remember those who died in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Historic City News will attend as we have each year.

According to Peggy Soules, the widow of Jim Soules who died unexpectedly on Friday, her plans are to “bring the carousel home” to where she lives in Port Charlotte. She is reported to have told televised news sources that the Davenport Park Carousel in St Augustine will take its final turn this Sunday before being dismantled and removed.

On September 9, 2019 the City of St Augustine Beach held a Special Budget Meeting and a Regular Commission Meeting, discussing and presenting issues like the budget, the Anastasia Island Environmental Stewardship Award, a franchise fee for solid waste haulers, and dog tag licenses.

This morning at about 9:30 a.m., St Augustine Beach Police Chief Robert A Hardwick filed papers with Supervisor of Elections Lois Oakes announcing his intention to be St Johns County’s next sheriff. Hardwick seeks election to fill an opening created by David Shoar who has stated publicly that he won’t seek re-election.

The City of St Augustine reported to Historic City News that they would like to encourage visitors to return downtown now that Hurricane Dorian is gone. As an incentive, the City has suspended parking enforcement until Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol District Sergeant Michael Quade reported to Historic City News that only minutes after 1:00 a.m. this morning, 37-year-old William Earl Carden of Palm Coast, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95.

Pursuant to Section 403.077, F.S., the Florida Department of Environmental Protection informed local Historic City News reporters that they have received the following Public Notice of Pollution for a reportable release that occurred within St Johns County.
