Criminal Justice cadets receive graduation honors

Kenya Kelley told local Historic City News reporters that special awards were recently presented to the law enforcement and corrections cadets at the St. Johns River Community College Criminal Justice graduation ceremony.

Three arrests made in Brookins murder

Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw informed Historic City News local reporters that three Jacksonville residents are in custody in connection with the murder of a 45-year old Duval County man nearly two months ago.

Use of ordinance to guide architectural style

Planning and Building Director Mark Knight presented St. Augustine City Commissioners with a proposed ordinance at their regular meeting last night that will shift architectural style guidelines from the state-regulated Comprehensive Plan to local control.

UF assumes management of historic properties

The University of Florida assumes the management of 34 state-owned historic properties in St. Augustine on Thursday and incoming City Manager John Regan has received a nod from the commission to continue efforts towards “building bridges” with them.

Late-night alcohol sales will continue in city

Historic City News looked on last night as St. Augustine city commissioners renewed an ordinance which extends sales of hard liquor, beer and wine until 2:00 in the morning.

Burchfield to be Assistant City Manager

In a move that that will save the city as much as $150,000 every year, Historic City News has learned that incoming City Manager John Regan has decided to promote Chief Administrative Officer Timothy A. Burchfield into a newly created position of “Assistant City Manager”.

Local preservationist Theresa Segal was featured in a July/August 2010 article discussing her formation of the citizens group, “Save our Bridge” that appeared in Preservation magazine, a publication of National Trust for Historic Preservation.
