Although the City of St Augustine Beach announced to Historic City News last week that they would not adopt a similar ordinance, and the St Johns County Commission announced neither would they, the latest overzealous order adopted by Mayor Upchurch and his crew, a mandatory mask ordinance, has triggered a lawsuit against city taxpayers.
Historic City News was notified by the Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.
Melinda B. Conlon, Communications and Events Coordinator for the City of St Augustine Beach reported to Historic City News that during yesterday’s Emergency City Commission Meeting, July 2, 2020, a Face Covering Resolution was approved by unanimous consent.
Chairman Lance Thate informed Historic City News this evening that their signature vessel, the “Dartmouth” usually stationed in the parking lot at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument for special patriotic events like the July 4th fireworks, will instead be mobile this holiday weekend since the fort lost its battle with COVID-19 and the Commissioners of the City of St Augustine cancelled the acclaimed Fireworks by Santore; who have been creating breathtaking pyrotechnic displays internationally for over 125 years.

I read with great interest the June 24 story regarding my participation in the memorial dedication of Keith Martin Field and that some had taken issue with me highlighting my participation on Facebook.
Local residents and Historic City visitors stopped in St Augustine’s Plaza de la Constitution today; many of whom brought with them a bouquet of flowers, a hand lettered sign or greeting card, a Gadsden flag, the Confederate battle flag, or even the red, white and blue that we fly today. Sunday was the day set aside for a “Fill the Fence” event organized by Jill Pacetti and many from the city’s Menorcan cultural community.

How is it that the bright minds elected to our city and county commissions are either too clueless or disconnected from reality to understand that tourists, and some residents, are confused about their jurisdictional boundaries?
In the case of Tina Jaeckle vs Flagler College Inc, Historic City News received confirmation that on Monday, United States District Judge Timothy J Corrigan granted Jaeckle’s motion to file a second amended complaint, opening the door for the case to move forward. Jaeckle has requested a trial by jury. Flagler College has until July 7, 2020, to answer the amended complaint.
