City employee offers cost-saving suggestion

An ancient Japanese relative of the carp that can live for centuries makes its home in the ponds of the Lightner Museum courtyard; and, thanks to a suggestion from a property services employee, the City is paying less to feed them.

Local college offers insurance career program

St. Johns River Community College announced to Historic City News that they are offering coursework on the St. Augustine Campus for students preparing to enter careers as customer service representatives and account managers for independent insurance agencies.

Gold award for Flagler College Magazine again

Priscilla Proctor, Coordinator of College and Public Relations, announced to local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News that Flagler College Magazine has won a second gold award in the 2010 MarCom Awards competition, and a brochure about the college’s “Study Abroad” program also won a gold award.

Ex-commissioner Rich becoming a pundit

For four years, Benjamin A. Rich, a former federal agent, served a term on the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners while Historic City News local reporters documented his somewhat bizarre behavior, heavy-handedness, flamboyant attire, and kooky, crackpot sense of logic.

2010 Light-Up Night ceremonies in Plaza

The City of St. Augustine has invited all Historic City News readers to join us at the Plaza de la Constitución on Saturday, November 20th for all the Light-Up Night ceremonies — including the dramatic “flipping of the switch” to kick off the 10-week long Nights of Lights.
