St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Mike Register reported to Historic City News that the District’s Governing Board on Tuesday approved seven contracts worth $860,000 in cost-share funds to assist local growers with projects intended to decrease water usage by 44 million gallons a year.
In defense of 31-year-old Luis Casado, St Augustine attorney Patrick Canan has petitioned the 7th Judicial Circuit Court for a “stand your ground” hearing arising from the shooting death of 37-year-old Adam Amoia in May 2021. Casado has been charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed firearm in the fatal shooting. Casado was released from custody after posting a $52,500 appearance bond.
St Johns County Supervisor of Elections announced to Historic City News this morning that the Canvassing Board accepted a request made by current District 4 County Commissioner Jeremiah Blocker that the ballots cast in his race need not be recounted. In a letter from Blocker last night, he accepted that his re-election campaign had “come up short”.
