As we begin our 26th year of publication, I want to look back in satisfaction and look forward with renewed hope; as we rebuild our brand and commit to our nonprofit platform for the benefit of both advertisers and citizens of my hometown.
On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the St Johns County Sheriffs Office confirmed to Historic City News that the “heavy law enforcement presence” on I-95 near Mile Marker 323 was the result of an attempted traffic stop gone bad that spiraled into a full-on manhunt spreading east across International Golf Parkway to US-1 near Abbotts Way.
The St Johns County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect following a double shooting that left two women seriously injured inside a Lena Street residence in St Johns County on Thursday evening, according to a report received by Historic City News.
This evening, Monday, December 2, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., the St Augustine City Commission will meet for its organizational meeting in The Alcazar Room of City Hall, located ground level off the courtyard at 75 King Street. Historic City News readers will want to arrive early for tonight’s abbreviated meeting and ceremony. Photographs are planned for new members and group photos that will be distributed to the media throughout the coming two years.
Historic City News readers are in for a treat Friday, December 6th as park staff and volunteers bring to life the events on the evening of June 25, 1740, when the continued existence of St Augustine was in doubt. During Castillo by Candlelight: Enemy at the Gates, participants will be on the front line during this 40-minute living history tour at the authentic location of the conflict between St Augustine residents and British forces.
Today Historic City News readers looked forward optimistically as our newly elected St Johns County Commissioners were sworn into office. Commissioner Christian Whitehurst (R-District 1) was returned to his seat for a second term. Freshman Commissioner Clay Murphy (R-District 3) and Ann Taylor (R-District 5) begin their first four-year terms this morning.

It’s morning in St Johns County, America. We are happy that on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, three reform Commissioners will become a 60% majority on our St Johns County Board of County Commissioners. Clay Murphy and Ann Taylor will join reformer Krista Keating Joseph. Three cheers! As President Theodore Roosevelt would say, we’re “delighted!”
