Gary Bruce invited St. Augustine and St. Johns County Historic City News readers to attend a special tribute event honoring our local veterans and the sacrifices made by our ex-prisoners of war.

President Jim Laquidara of the Fraternal Order Orioles, St. Johns River Nest 324, announced to Historic City News that, in keeping with the organization’s charter requirement that all profits must be donated to charitable causes, his club has chosen to act as benefactor to St. Johns County schools.

Local Certified Public Accountant, Bradley K. Davis, announced to Historic City News reporters that due to the weekend, the official registration deadline for the 2011 St. Augustine – Ketterlinus High School Alumni Association “Hall of Fame” and Dinner has been extended to Monday, October 17th.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Section informed local Historic City News reporters that they are sponsoring the 11th annual “Horror Zone” during this Halloween season.

Rhonda Parker Special to Historic City News Chewing gum on the bottom of your shoe after a walk on St. George Street may seem like a minor annoyance to some, but to resident Linda Groom the issue is so sticky she decided to bring it before the St, Augustine City Commission this week.

Rabbi Merrill Shapiro told Historic City News that although conventional wisdom traces the history of the Jews in what was to become the U.S. to the first week of September 1654 in New York, a small local interfaith group might be able to prove that Jews accompanied Spaniards to St. Augustine in 1565.

Cathy Brown reported to Historic City News that visiting Haitian artist Rara Kuyu would be in St. Augustine this weekend; displaying his work and helping to raise funds locally for the Council on Aging.
