Resident frustrated with parking fees

Historic City News was contacted this afternoon by local resident Merrill Paul Roland who is frustrated with city officials in St. Augustine over how they charge handicapped drivers to park.
Following a claim made by a former county employee, both City of St. Augustine Beach and St. Johns County officials are looking into whether or not there has been any billing errors related to yard waste collected at the beach.

Commissioners decided that 10:30 p.m. was not a good time to refashion an ordinance banning vending in the Plaza.

Historic City News has learned that increases in property taxes, fire assessment fees and utility taxes are “on the table” as the city tries to cover an estimated $1.4 million budget deficit for next year according to figures in The St. Augustine Report.

St. Augustine City Commission voted 4-0 last night to deny a proposed reprise of the turn of the 20th century “Bishop’s Building” at St. George Street and Cathedral Place and later voted 4-1 to overturn a 2003 resolution that allowed the building plan.

St. Johns County Property Appraiser Sharon Outland reported to Historic City News that she submitted the estimate of total County taxable property value for the fiscal year 2010 County Budget on June 1st, as required by Florida Statutes.

Historic City has learned of two challenges to lower board decisions that will be aired before the City Commission at their regular meeting begining at 5 p.m. in the Alcazar Room at City Hall.

Historic City News has received word that Applications Management is in the process of improving several procedures involved in the county’s Development Review Process.
