Historic City News received a Tuesday press release from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ office, calling on the legislature to adopt a bill making it easier to sue the press. The release followed a roundtable discussion with the governor and media critics in Hialeah Gardens.

Last Friday, January 20th, Historic City News learned of the retirement of K-9 Deputy Maverick from the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office.  Maverick is an 11-year-old, dual-purpose Belgian Malinois, born January 29, 2012.  He has served with honor and distinction since 2014.

Historic City News was informed by the City of St Augustine Beach that longtime commissioner, Margaret England, has retired from City service.  At its final meeting of the year in December, the City Commission presented a plaque to Commissioner England in appreciation for her 14 years of service to the city.

In an announcement to Historic City News local reporters last week, 21-year St Johns County Fire Rescue veteran Raymond Scott Bullard was named interim fire rescue chief.  After 40 years of service to St Johns County, Chief Jeffrey Prevatt has retired.

The Executive Office of Governor Ron DeSantis reported to Historic City News yesterday that the governor has appointed local businessman Roy A Alaimo to fulfill the remaining term of the late St Johns County Commissioner Paul M Waldron.
