Historic City News subscribers have their first opportunity to vote in person today as St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes commences Early Voting for the November 8, 2022, General Election. Early Voting runs through Saturday, November 5th, which includes two Saturdays and a Sunday. Regardless of your home precinct, you may vote early at any one of the eight designated Early Voting locations, open daily from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Historic City News learned that early this morning (Tuesday) St Johns County District 3 Commissioner Paul Waldron passed away. Waldron’s health has been diminished since an extended battle with COVID-19 which left him hospitalized and bedridden just two years ago. Further medical complications followed leaving him with limited mobility and depending on a walker as he continued his duties and appearances at events around the county. In just a couple of weeks, on November 5th, he would have turned 54 years old.

Burry Gowen, president, will serve as moderator and will ask questions collected from residents when the Neighborhood Council of St Augustine presents its 2022 City Commission Candidate Forum on Wednesday, October 19th at the Waterworks Building, located at 184 San Marco Avenue.

Almost all Historic City News subscribers are registered and eager to vote in the General Mid-term Election to be held on November 8, 2022. However, you cannot vote in November if you are not registered by Tuesday. Unlike the August Primary Election, all registered St Johns County voters will vote in November – even if the seat is only contested by a “write-in” candidate, whom many consider nothing more than a “spoiler”.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management announced to local Historic City News reporters that there are already a number of programs available to Florida home and business owners in need of recovery assistance related to property damages and economic injuries sustained during Hurricane Ian.

This week, Brandon Patty, St Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller, presented the second edition of his popular version of the Annual Financial Report to the Board of County Commissioners.

The St. Johns County Civic Roundtable will host a town hall presentation led by St Johns County Commission chair Henry Dean at noon on Monday, October 10th, regarding the proposed 1¢ sales tax increase.
