At the conclusion of an emotional sentencing hearing this morning, Historic City News watched as 38-year-old James Terry Colley Jr., previously convicted in the murder of his wife and friend in her north St. Johns County home, was sentenced to death today by Circuit Court Judge Howard Maltz.

St Augustine Police Chief Barry Fox told Historic City News that he informed State Attorney R J Larizza that there are nine individuals who he believes are in violation of state law regarding the operation of “slot machine style” computer games of chance. The charges sought would be for keeping a gambling house and offering an illegal lottery This is not the first time we have seen these machines appear, but Fox says he hopes it’s the last.

St Johns Sheriff David Shoar unaware of $700,000 embezzelment over past five years.

Raye Annette Brutnell, former executive assistant to Sheriff Perry and Sheriff David Shoar, most recently Shoar’s appointee as Director of Finance for the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office, has surrendered herself to the custody of the Flagler County Jail this morning after she was informed that a warrant had been issued for her arrest. Brutnell just turned 47-years-old last month and has worked for the sheriff’s office since March 5, 1991. In 2005, Brutnell received a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Flagler College.
