St Johns County Supervisor of Elections, Vicky Oakes, reminded local Historic City News reporters that the voter registration books for the November 8th General Election will close on Tuesday, October 11th.

The City of St Augustine has reported to Historic City News that the regular City Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, October 10 has been cancelled. The next commission meeting will be on Monday, October 24th at 5:00 p.m.

Ludmilla Lelis, Court Communications Officer for the 7th Judicial Circuit of Florida, announced to local Historic City News reporters that all courthouses in the Circuit will be closed due to Hurricane Matthew.

Two incumbents, both former Mayors, will square off against challengers this Monday night October 10th at City Hall in St Augustine Beach.

Some Historic City News readers may not be aware that in the coming months, early in 2017, a little-known but immensely-important commission will be seated and tasked with reviewing and recommending changes to the Florida Constitution.

Flagler College’s Student Government Association announced to Historic City News that they intend to hold what they are calling “a debate” between candidates for St. Augustine’s city commission in the college’s Lewis Auditorium located at 14 Granada Street.

Neighborhood Council of St. Augustine president, Melinda Rakoncay, has invited all Historic City News readers to attend the only live, unrehearsed question and answer forum for city commission and mayor candidates in St Augustine.

Historic City News will be watching as the plaintiffs in Bates, et al vs. City of St Augustine come before a court appointed mediator in Jacksonville tomorrow afternoon, to see if it is possible for the city’s artists to return to their craft in public places around town.
