If there has ever been criticism of recent administrations at City Hall, the un-Godly length of the meetings, largely caused by unnecessary pablum from the commission table, must be at the top of the list.  City residents might start participating in the meetings again if they know that the chair won’t delay them all night listening to a bunch of worthless, dumb, silly, and especially empty remarks from the “me too” gang of commissioners.

Florida Senator Travis Hutson (Rep Dist 7) reported to Historic City News in St Augustine that Tuesday, March 5th marked the Opening Day of Florida’s 2019 Legislative Session. The Senate, House of Representatives, and Cabinet joined together for the State of the State address delivered by Governor Ron DeSantis.

In one of the most refreshing announcements for an elected public official in St Johns County, Historic City News was notified that St Johns County Property Appraiser, Eddie Creamer, has begun publishing monthly financial statements on the office website, www.sjcpa.us.

Historic City News learned today that 62-year-old Tracy Wilson Upchurch, who is a resident of Old Quarry Road on Anastasia Island, officially became St. Augustine’s 120th mayor since the end of the city’s colonial period in 1821.

At the conclusion of last night’s continuation of the March 4th regular City Commission meeting, high profile and controversial St Augustine Beach Commissioner Rich O’Brien announced his resignation, effective immediately.

On March 4, 2019 the City of St Augustine Beach informed Historic City News of the details of their regular City Commission meeting.  Cindy Walker reported that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss Beach Blast Off, the zoning of medical marijuana pharmacies, and a ban on plastic bag use by retail establishments, among other issues.

Historic City News local reporters watched this morning as the remaining four members of the St Augustine City Commission took less than 30-minutes to unanimously decide that 62-year-old Tracy Wilson Upchurch will serve out the remaining term of former mayor, Nancy Shaver, which ends on December 7, 2020.
