St Augustine Mayor Nancy Shaver says that she has come to a difficult decision. After talking with her medical team and family members, it is with deep regret that she resigns her elected position effective immediately. The mayor told local Historic City News reporters that this choice is necessary in order to focus on her recovery from Monday night’s stroke.

In what turned out to be nothing more than a three-minute verbal assault against the mayor and city commission Monday night, Historic City News listened closely as Gainesville resident Ronald Rawls, Jr.; an overbearing man whose wife was recently elected to the Alachua County Court bench, delivered some more threatening words.
Following last evening’s meeting of the St. Augustine City Commission, St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Shaver suffered a stroke while still at City Hall. Shaver was transported to Flagler Hospital and then transferred to Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Ten-days ago when Historic City News reported that Evelyn Hammock had been arrested by St Augustine police officer Alexander R Barrera, and that he had charged her with a third-degree felony and taken her to jail, an overwhelming response came in from our readers by telephone, email, text message and social media expressing shock that the 63-year-old woman had been taken into custody.

Our City and its politics are starting to seem like an episode out of Boss (a gangster TV show on Netflix). All we need is Kelsey Grammar as the lead character and all the elements of a Boss episode are in motion:
As part of the widening and reconstruction improvements at the San Marco Avenue and May Street intersection, traffic on US-1 (Ponce de Leon Boulevard) will shift slightly between Dismukes Street and west San Carlos Avenue Friday, February 22nd barring inclement weather and unforeseen circumstances.
