Today begins government ban of vehicles on public beaches and parking lots

Today, Monday March 23, 2020, is the day that vehicular access to all public St Johns County beaches and public beach parking lots is – and remains – prohibited until further notice; that according to an announcement from Hunter S. Conrad, the newly appointed County Administrator.

At about 8:00 p.m. last night, Historic City News was informed by Florida Highway Patrol Troop G that a hit-and-run crash occurred on Old Moultrie Road in St Johns County.  According to Trooper Brandon Elder, the unknown driver fled the scene; last seen traveling northbound on Old Moultrie Road.

The City of St Augustine announced this week that they will stop charging for metered street parking and city-owned parking lots beginning Wednesday. Historic City News learned of the announcement through the office of city manager John Regan, who did not mention changes regarding the Historic St Augustine Downtown Parking Facility.
