It is a great day for St Augustine and St Johns County conservationists, now that the Florida Cabinet has voted to allocate $6.5 million to the North Florida Land Trust for the purchase of Fish Island; a prime parcel in St Johns County.
Historic City News readers who own property in St Johns County began receiving notices for the 2019/2020 Fire Assessment Fee if their property is located within the City of St Augustine. The notices were mailed late last week.
St. Johns County Emergency Management has notified Historic City News of an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for East-central St Johns County. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms, with rainfall rates over 4 inches per hour. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area.
Bill Jones, as president of the St Augustine Beach Civic Association Board of Directors, forwarded a copy of an open letter to Historic City News which he sent to the City Commission of St Augustine Beach yesterday. The letter addresses the current budget deliberations and their thoughts on how the City should approach funding its operations in the coming fiscal year and beyond.

By the close of business Monday, July 15th, Historic City News was informed that 2,325 St Johns County voter signatures had been verified by the Florida Department of State, Division of Elections, in Districts 4 and 6, on petitions seeking a constitutional amendment that will require U.S. citizenship in order to vote in Florida elections.
