Mark McHugh, Chief Executive Officer for Gatorland in Central Florida, reported to Historic City News that this weekend provided the occasion to reopen the doors of the landmark tourist attraction after the longest closure in its 70-year history.
Historic City News was notified by the Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.
Historic City News has been provided with an update from Dennis W. Hollingsworth, St. Johns County Tax Collector, as his office recovers from a shutdown caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. The Main Office located at the St Johns County Courthouse, the Julington Creek branch, and Ponte Vedra Beach branch are all open to serve residents of St Johns County, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., until further notice.
It is with deepest sorrow that the family of James Samuel Stuart announces to Historic City News his sudden passing on Sunday May 3, 2020 at age 64 from complications related to COVID-19. Jimmy was born in St. Augustine, Florida in August 1955.
As residents and visitors return to St Johns County beaches this weekend, just because Historic City News subscribers will enjoy reduced coronavirus restrictions, the water’s edge still poses serious dangers.

On August 26, 2011, Historic City News reported that, following the execution of several search warrants and review of DNA test results, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sean A. Bush in connection with the nearly three-month-old murder of his 35-year-old wife, Nicole Elise Bush. Yesterday, the Florida Supreme Court upheld the conviction and death sentence.
