Tip nets suspect in theft

The father of a burglary victim is being credited with helping the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office track down a suspect in the case that played out over two counties in January. “Our detectives have been investigating the case and getting leads since the incident happened Jan. 24.” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kevin Kelshaw said Friday.

But he didn’t know an asphalt plant had moved in until he began to smell the tarry, chemical-laden fumes shortly after the plant opened in 2000.
