St Johns County Commissioner Jeb Smith, will be the special guest speaker Tuesday evening when the Saint Augustine Tea Party invites Historic City News subscribers to attend an open meeting February 23rd beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the World Famous Oasis Restaurant, located at 4000 A1A South in St Augustine Beach.
Historic City News subscribers are invited to join City officials in St Augustine on Saturday, February 20, at 12:00 noon, at the corner of Bravo Street and Weeden Street in Lincolnville for an unveiling ceremony honoring Carrie Johnson, lovingly remembered as the Voice of “Lincolnville”. During its Monday January 13, 2020 meeting, the St Augustine City Commission voted to celebrate Johnson’s life by renaming Bravo Street (between Riberia Street and Sanford Street) to “Carrie Johnson Way”.
In honor of Black History Month, Historic City News would like to outline St Augustine’s Emancipation history with a special focus on the Lincolnville neighborhood. Included are recommendations for lodging, restaurants, and cultural activities, provided by the St Johns Cultural Council.
The Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, Inc. are pleased to announce their 2020 Volunteer of the Year, Captain Adam Morley. Currently serving as vice president of the organization, Morley was recognized for his service to the Friends of A1A and presented with the annual volunteer service award, at the Coastal Policy Center in Marineland, Florida last month.
Florida Department of Transportation Community Outreach Specialist Allen Nelson has updated Historic City News with the weekly lane closure report containing information regarding ongoing construction projects and traffic impacts for the coming week. Our readers and subscribers will be updated every Friday by 5:00 p.m., with some unavoidable exceptions and state holidays.
Thursday, January 7, 2021 beginning at 9:00 a.m., Historic City News subscribers can visit a secure link provided by St Johns County Management to register online for an appointment to receive the vaccine for the Neuvo Coronavirus COVID-19. The state program is administered by the Florida Department of Health. Locally, the county has partnered with the Department to more efficiently arrange appointments.
St Johns County on-beach driving passes for the 2021 beach season have been available for purchase by Historic City News subscribers since December 7, 2020. No doubt, some were purchased and exchanged as gifts this Holiday season. But, for those who purchased 2020 annual on-beach driving passes, retain your sticker; they have been extended through the new year.
Recently Historic City News learned that two local charitable groups, serving related missions in St Augustine, held a successful fundraiser at the Tringali Barn to get local businesses connected to and supporting St. Francis House and Port in the Storm.
