Trinity Parish celebrating 200-years of history with Charleston SC

Charleston, South Carolina is known as the “Holy City” because, from the time it was founded in 1670, it has been tolerant of the various religious beliefs of the citizens. The Holy City has a deep connection to “America’s Oldest City”, the City of St Augustine, founded in 1565.  Several churches in St Augustine can trace their roots back to Charleston, including Trinity Parish. The Episcopal Parish is recognized for being the oldest Protestant church in the state.

Replanting Vilano Beach dunes requires removal of all personal property

The Jacksonville District office of the US Army Corps of Engineers has asked Historic City News to notify subscribers in the Vilano Beach, North Beach and Surfside areas to collect all portable personal property like beach and patio furniture, volleyball nets, temporary fencing and similar seasonal amenities from the dunes so that the final stages of beach renourishment can conclude.

On October 10, 1991, St Augustine and St Johns County lost folk musician James Gamble Rogers III.  The popular 54-year-old local performer and famed storyteller, whose life and legacy has been celebrated annually during a festival in St Augustine that carries his name, features national, regional, and local musicians performing on several stages.
