Historic City News was notified that the St. Augustine Jewish Historical Society is mourning the February 16th death of Al Vorspan, a giant in the movement for Social Justice among Reform Jews.  Vorspan, although not a rabbi himself, was arrested here in St. Augustine, along with 16 Rabbis, making for the largest mass arrest of Rabbis in U.S. history.

St Augustine resident Kevin Crowell announced to Historic City News today that he needs volunteers who are willing to help clean up some of the biggest eyesores in our community on March 2, 2019.

Yesterday the City of St Augustine recognized the 500th anniversary of the birth of Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles and this afternoon, Saturday February 16th, Historic City News readers enjoyed a procession along St George Street from the City Gates to the Plaza de la Constitucion as part of the activities commemorating this special birthday.

Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.

Historic City News readers are cautioned that sidewalk closures will be in place next week on Avenida Menendez between the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and the Bridge of Lions in order to complete drainage work.
