Members of the Board of Governors of the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind convened in emergency session Friday; four of the seven-member Board, none of whom resides in St Augustine, attended the meeting in person.

St Augustine pollster and former Republican State Committeeman from St Johns County, Jon Woodard, reported to Historic City News the results of his recent Dixie Strategies – First Coast News poll showing that if Tuesday’s election were held today, Gingrich and Romney could tie.

The last day to vote early in the Presidential Preference Republican Primary Election is Saturday, January 28th from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at any one of six early voting locations within St. Johns County, Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes told Historic City News.

Tuesday, Florida Representative Matt Hudson, Chairman of the Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee, recommended cutting the job of Gerald R. Briggs from the 2012-13 House version of the budget.

All public and private properties within the city limits of St Augustine have required evaluation by a trained and professional archaeologist since 1986; however, that effort was reinforced last night when city commissioners passed a resolution for the further protection of archaeological resources.

Not including provisional ballots, Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes informed local Historic City News reporters that St Johns County voters cast 962 ballots in the first day of early voting in the Republican Presidential Preference Election.

Historic City News readers may recall that, in 2003, and again, two years later, the City of St Augustine sold bonds to investors — a high priority debt, given to raise money that was needed for the system that delivers water and sewer service to city taxpayers and residents.
