All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Johns County Administrative offices, St. Johns County libraries, the Pet Center, the Property Appraiser’s Office, the Tax Collector’s Office, and the Supervisor of Elections’ Office will be closed Tuesday, December 24, and Wednesday, December 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday.
A well-known area charitable organization, “Flagler Cats”, who operate a non-profit spay and neuter clinic and cat rescue in Bunnell, and its director, Mari Molina, find themselves on the horns of a dilemma this morning. In exchange for donations to her clinic, Molina allowed Flagler Beach “bingo” operator, Gregory Irwin, to conduct fundraising in the name of the charity.
Pursuant to Section 403.077, F.S., the Florida Department of Environmental Protection informed local Historic City News reporters that they have received the following Public Notice of Pollution for a reportable release that occurred within St Johns County.
The St Johns County Planning and Zoning Department reported to Historic City News that an applicant-sponsored community meeting is being held to allow the public an opportunity to learn about and participate in the planning for a project proposed for the northwest sector of St Johns County.
St Johns County commissioners currently are paid $76,094 each year plus benefits, more than most of the constituents that they represent. Historic City News editor Michael Gold has been told many times that if a county commissioner really does their job, they are probably underpaid. After all, the commission just approved a $195,000 salary for the interim county manager and his predecessor was paid a whopping $237,453.

For years I have bemoaned Florida’s “Printed Newspaper Protection Act”, sections 50.011 and 50.031, Florida Statutes, that created a monopoly for mullet wrappers across the state.
Historic City News reporters learned this morning that deputies were called to the scene of a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that had been stripped and abandoned in the woods near the Shands Bridge.
At about 11:10 p.m. Sunday night, Historic City News was informed by the Florida Highway Patrol that a former Allen D Nease Senior High School student, 18-year-old Benjamin Goss of Ponte Vedra Beach, died from injuries sustained in a crash at Racetrack Road and US-1.
