City officials on notice for pending injury claim of local patriot

City Attorney Isabelle Lopez and City Manager John P Regan have been placed “on notice” of a claim filed against the City of St. Augustine, St. Augustine Police Department, City Manager John Regan, Code Enforcement Manager Barry Fox, Sergeant Jerry Whitehead, Commander of Administration of the St. Augustine Police Department Richard Warner, Sergeant Brian Frasca, Officer Alexander Barrera, and Officer Matt Mitchell, by a local resident injured in connection with his opposition to the removal of the 1879 Confederate Veterans Memorial from the Plaza de la Constitucion.

Office of Congressional Ethics: Rutherford failed to file timely disclosure reports

Despite being required to do so by federal law and House rules, U.S. Representative for District 4, which includes St Johns County, John H Rutherford, is under investigation by the House Committee on Ethics over multiple late disclosures of stock transactions that were made in his retirement fund account.  Historic City News learned Tuesday that the referral from the Office of Congressional Ethics said Rutherford would not sit down to answer questions and did not cooperate during their initial inquiry in February.

Strawberry shortcake has become the state’s official dessert

Although lawmakers failed to deliver on some critical legislation this year, they did manage to find time to pass into law a bill that would establish “strawberry shortcake” as Florida’s official dessert. Senate Bill 1006 was the companion to a House bill filed in November by Representatives Lawrence McClure of Dover and Demi Busatta Cabrera of Coral Gables.  Historic City News has learned that Governor Ron DeSantis has already signed the bill, making it official.
