Hardwick forsakes Beach for a shot at a $52,521 pay raise

This morning at about 9:30 a.m., St Augustine Beach Police Chief Robert A Hardwick filed papers with Supervisor of Elections Lois Oakes announcing his intention to be St Johns County’s next sheriff.  Hardwick seeks election to fill an opening created by David Shoar who has stated publicly that he won’t seek re-election.

The City of St Augustine reported to Historic City News that they would like to encourage visitors to return downtown now that Hurricane Dorian is gone.  As an incentive, the City has suspended parking enforcement until Monday.

Florida Highway Patrol District Sergeant Michael Quade reported to Historic City News that only minutes after 1:00 a.m. this morning, 37-year-old William Earl Carden of Palm Coast, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95.

As Hurricane Dorian heads north, Florida Power & Light Company is working to restore power for customers impacted by the storm’s outer bands.  Historic City News was informed earlier today that the company had restored more than 150,000 outages since the storm started moving up Florida’s east coast.
