Diocese of St Augustine resuming public Mass

As health restrictions begin to ease in Florida, Bishop Felipe Estévez of the Diocese of St. Augustine announced to Historic City News earlier today that he has approved safety guidelines to provide direction and recommendations for clergy as the diocese moves toward resuming public Mass and the sacraments in its parishes on the weekend of May 16-17.  Weekday Masses can resume May 18.

Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway Receive Honorable Mention

Danielle Anderson, Byway Administrator for the A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, informed local Historic City News reporters that her organization was one-of-two National Scenic Byways in Florida to receive recognition. Their video project, “Capturing the A1A Byway Story”, part of the Roadmap to History video series in development, was selected for Honorable Mention by the National Scenic Byway Foundation on April 23, 2020.

Vilano Beach street renamed for Vivian Browning

During yesterday’s regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, St Johns County Land Management Systems Director Gail Oliver, brought forward a resolution for approval to rename Poplar Avenue on Vilano Beach to Vivian Browning Avenue to honor Browning’s years of dedication and contributions to the community.
