During the regular Tuesday meeting of the St Johns County Commission, District 2 Commissioner Jeb S Smith formally announced his resignation to serve as president of the Florida Farm Bureau: the state’s largest agricultural organization with more than 136,000 members. The Farm Bureau represents farm owners who produce all 300 of the state’s agricultural commodities.

October 1st, Florida Representative Cyndi Stevenson, Paul Renner, and State Senator Travis Hutson convened the annual state legislative delegation hearing in St Augustine. Historic City News readers participated in this planned opportunity to be heard by our lawmakers as they head into the new legislative session in Tallahassee.

Nearly 75,000 abortions were reported to Historic City News in Florida in 2020, up 4% from the previous year, according to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.

Twenty new judges have been appointed in Florida and Historic City News was informed that one of those new judges is coming to the 7th Judicial Circuit for St Johns County.  Altogether, nine of the twenty judges will fill new vacancies created by the Florida Legislature, bringing to 150 the total judicial appointments made by Governor Ron DeSantis.

St Johns County Communications Division, Director of Communications Michael Ryan, reported to Historic City News the official closings for all departments of county government in observance of Memorial Day.

Raye Annette Brutnell will appear at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon to enter a felony plea and sentencing in the criminal matter of the State of Florida vs Raye Annette Brutnell that began three years ago, on November 20, 2018. The case will be heard before Circuit Court Judge R. Lee Smith in courtroom 328.
