Mercer joins Airport Authority – Youman returns

Executive Director Edward R Wuellner reported to Historic City News that newly elected airport authority members, local attorney Matt Mercer, and re-elected member, Carl Youman, were administered the oath of office during the January 14th meeting of the St Augustine – St Johns County Airport Authority Board.

Tractor operator killed in Hastings

Reporting to Historic City News from the scene, St Johns County Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Matthew Sara informed us that a Pedro Menendez High School student has lost his life after the tractor he was operating, overturned in a ditch and pinned him underneath.

Billie: Archeologists not respecting burial grounds

During Monday night’s meeting of the St Augustine City Commission, Clan Leader Bobby C. Billie, representing the Council of the Original Miccosukee Seminole Nation Aboriginal Peoples, asked that archeologists recognize that Castillo de San Marcos, and the surrounding waters, are sacred burial grounds and that they be treated as such.

An Atlantic Beach construction firm has confirmed for Historic City News that they have won the contract to begin building a Salt Life Food Shack restaurant in St Augustine Beach on property across from the St Johns County pier.

Tourist Council to recommend new members

Dena Masters reported to local Historic City News reporters that during the next regular meeting of the St Johns County Tourist Development Council on Monday, February 4, the Council will elect a chairman and vice chairman for calendar year 2013 as well as review and recommend appointments for two vacant member seats.
