If Gator DeLoach thought his battle to hold on to the seat of sheriff in neighboring Putnam County was over after winning a decision in circuit court, he would be mistaken.  DeLoach was elected as a Democrat in the November 2016 General Election in Putnam County; a squeaky close race against Republican challenger, Jonathan Kinney.

Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Debbie Delgado, that traffic will be impacted at the following
St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.

Be alert to lane closures and temporary detours, as well as increased congestion in these areas. FDOT employees and contractors will be working on the roadways and need your full attention.

During the August 28th meeting of the St. Augustine City Commission, more than four-hours of public comment was heard regarding the future of the city’s confederate memorial. At the conclusion of that meeting, and after discussion among themselves, commissioners asked the city manager to conduct research and return with options and a recommendation of specific action.

It’s the five-member city commission’s decision, but, St Augustine’s City Manager tells Historic City News that he will recommend at the next meeting that they not accede to the demands of a few residents, but rather allow the confederate memorial in the Plaza to remain in place; adding contextualization that will be guided by a Commission-appointed advisory committee.
