SPECIAL TO HISTORIC CITY NEWS
Recently I read two editorials concerning the Bed Tax (Tourist Development Tax) and the need to expand the tax uses and allocate a greater share to St. Augustine. I was almost giddy over the thought that monies are already being generated and we simply needed to disburse them differently and this lie in the hands of the County Commission.

Just when St Augustine residents are at the end of their ropes with traffic congestion and overcrowding from summer vacations, three taxpayer-funded organizations are telling Historic City News readers not to breathe that “sigh of relief” just yet.

The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve reported to Historic City News that they recently received an old ship rudder from the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, which is now on display at the GTM’s Environmental Education Center.

Each weekday, Historic City News publishes a summary of calls handled by the St Augustine Police Department. The information contained in this report is taken from sources deemed reliable; the accuracy and completeness of which Historic City News does not control and cannot guarantee.
