A group of local Historic City News readers, recalling their service in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II, and that of their families, attended a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at Naval Station Mayport commemorating the Battle of Midway that occurred June 4th through June 7th of 1942.
St Augustine Chief of Police, Loran K Lueders, tells Historic City News that he is ready to implement the first step in an enhanced security plan approved by city commissioners concerned that the existing safety measures do not provide adequate protection for them during public meetings.
Laurie Sanderson reported the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations to Historic City News where the Florida Department of Transportation will be conducting roadwork that is expected to have an impact on driving, beginning this morning and continuing through the coming week.
Although elementary and middle school grades are not expected to be released until this summer, and high school grades will not be announced until later in the year, the St Johns County School District is already crowing about student scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test announced to Historic City News earlier today.


The very last item on the agenda of Monday night’s city commission meeting will no doubt test the patience, and endurance, of St Augustine commissioners, residents, and non-residents who have taken adverse positions with the issuance of a permit to Dolphin Cove Inn, Inc., to build a wooden fence along their north property line on the east side of the Bridge of Lions.
