  Historic City News has received the latest update on storm assessment and recovery activities following Hurricane Matthew.  At this time, urban search and rescue is complete in all areas.  St Johns County Damage Assessment Teams continue their initial assessments of structures in impacted areas.

Early images of Hurricane Matthew included widespread destruction as the storm’s violent eye-wall crossed Haiti, Nassau, and Grand Bahama Island. By Friday, the hurricane had killed more than 800 people and left tens of thousands homeless in Haiti before lashing Florida.

As of 8:00 p.m. Saturday night, Historic City News was informed that St Johns County Utility customers on Anastasia Island and the North Beaches, including Vilano Beach, South Ponte Vedra Beach, and Ponte Vedra Beach, have their water and sewer services restored.

St. Johns County residents can receive text messages regarding instant updates on Hurricane Matthew relief and recovery efforts by texting “STJOHNSFL” to the number 888777.

Curfew still in effect as some residents return home. Historic City News readers are reminded that St. Johns County is still under a local curfew from 8:00 pm – 6:00 am for affected areas.

Historic City News has been informed that as of this hour, St. Johns County is opening the Usina Bridge to Vilano Beach and all bridges to Anastasia Island, including the Bridge of Lions, the SR-312 Bridge, and Matanzas Inlet Bridge.
