New leadership for St Johns County Commission

At the special re-organizational meeting earlier today, Commissioner Krista Joseph was elected to a second term as Chair and freshman Commissioner Ann Taylor, was elected as Vice Chair for a one-year term.  Joseph, representing District 4, and Taylor, representing District 5, were each endorsed by the Historic City News Editorial Review Board in the last election.  The Chair and Vice Chair roles are voted on by the Board of County Commissioners annually at the second meeting in November.

Hall and Craig selected to electrify Light-Up! Night ceremony

It’s still a little early, but St Augustine’s mayor, Nancy Sikes-Kline, can’t wait to inform Historic City News that she has selected two honorees to share the stage and commence the official beginning of 2025 Nights of Lights.  The annual event was welcomed in 2003 when the mayor themselves made the ceremonial gesture of “flipping the switch” to turn on the Plaza Christmas tree lights.

Dan Holiday: Alas my brother

Daniel “Dan” Holiday, 89, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away April 27, 2025, at his residence. He was a native of Owls Head, New York, and resided in St. Augustine for over 65 years. Dan is survived by his wife, Candace Carroll of St Augustine, and daughter Elizabeth van Rensburg of Palatka.
