Dear Editor:

Citizen taxpayers in St Johns County are fed up with the convenient forgetfulness and selective memory of sitting members of the Board of County Commissioners; and, as those taxpayers come forward to challenge incumbents, there seems to be a lot of backpedaling.

Dear Editor:

I have written to Dana Ste. Claire asking the “African American Steering Committee” and his office to correct an inaccurate designation given to Dr. Robert Hayling which I now find is being picked up and repeated as fact — it is not correct. Dr. Hayling was not the first black dentist in St. Augustine, as represented by the 450th Commemoration panel.

Bill McClure, District 3
St Johns County Board of Commissioners

Memorial Day Weekend was one of the craziest at the beach. More people were upset than I have ever seen. From the Butler Boat Ramp closing without much notice, to 4×4 only signs at the beach ramps, to cars parking all along A1A, to pedestrians almost getting hit on A1A. It was crazy. Whew, I need to rant so let me digress for a moment…

It’s great to be sheriff of a county that has so many wonderful assets. Among the top recreational opportunities is both saltwater and freshwater boating. There are very few places in Florida where boats can be launched on the Intracoastal Waterway with access to the ocean and then just a couple of dozen miles to the west you can launch into the St. Johns River for some of the finest boating in the nation.
