Historic City News readers who know me, are not surprised to learn that I have written a “harsh” article, probably half sarcastic and half tongue-in-cheek, about government transparency, fraud, waste and abuse in government, or elected officials who think they are privileged, or show a sense of entitlement above the people.

So, just how transparent is the Saint Johns County website? While the website may provide a wealth of information, one has to dig a little further into the details in order to make sense of various programs the County Commissioners tout as contributing to our collective “quality of life.”

What happens at a local level is a microcosm of what is happening at a national level; where our politicians are attacking our Constitutional rights on a minute-to-minute basis, disregarding their constituent’s demands, showing nothing but contempt for the people, operating in a runaway spending mode, and engaging in crony capitalism — coupled with corruption.
