Historical Society names preservation award after Shepard

The St. Augustine Historical Society Board of Trustees informed local Historic City News reporters that they have honored longtime Florida architect Herschel E. Shepard by naming an annual award in his honor for excellence in historic preservation architecture for more than 50 of his 55-years-plus in St. Augustine and Florida and other locales.
xHistoric City News learned this week that nearly a third of all non-retirees have no retirement savings or pension because many simply cannot afford to contribute to any type of plan.

January 23, 1974, is a day that Historic City News editor Michael Gold is not likely to forget; in fact, anyone who lived in St Augustine at the time will probably tell you the same.


For the second time this month, the City of St Augustine has failed to control the weather, delaying further this year’s celebration of Arbor Day. Historic City News was informed by Public Affairs Director Paul Williamson that a final attempt will be made Monday afternoon.
