Tourism Employee of the Year to be named

The St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau reported to Historic City News that they are seeking nominations for the coveted Tourism Employee of the Year awards to be presented during National Tourism Week, May 10-17.

Sea turtle nest located

Historic City News has learned that an endangered leatherback sea turtle nest has been deposited outside the conservation area on Vilano Beach — north of the Surfside beach access ramp.

Youth Leadership recognizes students

In its eighth year, Youth Leadership St. Johns (YLSJ) program organizers boasted about the caliber of all 23 students who, after having developed their leadership skills, desire to learn more about how they can be involved in and give back to our community.

Chamber Donates Auction Proceeds

The St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce reported to Historic City News that they recently presented a check for over $1,000 to the St. Johns County Center for the Arts at St. Augustine High School (SJCCA).

County boat tax proposed

St. Augustine Port Authority Commissioner Jay Bliss plans to propose that the county tax boat registrations to “provide a measure of fairness: those deriving the most benefits, boaters, would be providing a fairer measure of support.”

Historic City News has learned through the Public Affairs communique “The St. Augustine Report” that Monday night’s city commission meeting – its first regular session in a month – will be dominated by six public hearings.
