St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes reported to Historic City News that her office mailed 23,000 requested “vote-by-mail” ballots for the August 28th Primary Election. According to the Supervisor, voters should begin receiving them on Saturday.
For four-years, Historic City News has hoped that Vice Mayor Todd Neville would make good on his campaign promise to increase transparency and accountability in city government. Since he did not qualify for re-election this year, he is officially a “lame duck”, but you wouldn’t know it given his performance at tonight’s St Augustine City Commission meeting.
Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Monica R. Reifeiss, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.
Be alert to lane closures and temporary detours, as well as increased congestion in these areas. FDOT employees and contractors will be working on the roadways and need your full attention.
Letter: Williams challenges fellow candidates to say no to dark money
Dick Williams, long-time St. Johns County resident and candidate for the St. Johns County Commission District 4, has pledged not to use so called “Dark Money” political committees to conduct campaign activities on his behalf and has asked his fellow candidates to join him.

How does a simple monument erected with private funds raised by the citizens of St. Augustine to memorialize its local dead just a few years after the bloodiest war in American history, have to do with white supremacy? It doesn’t!
In St Augustine, the statewide group, “Save Their Honor” is seeking descendants of the 44 local soldiers whose names are inscribed on the Plaza de la Constitution Confederate War Memorial as part of a program to help protect the memorial honoring their family members.
Wolfgang Schau, the man who the city allowed to donate a pair of lion statues for the east side of the Bridge of Lions, owns a catamaran. It is a beautiful sailing vessel and I am sure that he and his family find it easy to navigate in and out of our historic channel when they want to have some fun on the water. After all, he keeps it tied to a mooring ball owned by the city — but not just any mooring ball.
