Letter: Folks are a lot smarter than Mayor thinks

Payments in lieu of taxes are voluntary payments made by some colleges as a gesture of good will to help a city offset the loss of property taxes and to help defray the cost of services provided by the city. In no way should they be confused with fees and they are not assessed.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service informed Historic City News local reporters that the Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach boasts the highest occupancy rate of any campground in the Florida Park Service.
Historic City News learned of a recent dinner party held for members of the St. Augustine-Palm Coast Navy League Council held at the Slammer & Squire Legends Grill, World Golf Village. The occasion celebrated 40-years of honoring and serving the men and women in our Sea Services.
On the evening of October 15, 1874, Head Keeper William Russell lit the 370 prism, first order Fresnel lens in St. Augustine’s new lighthouse for the first time. In the 140 years since, the lens and its 165 ft. tall tower have presided over many changing tides in the oldest city.
