Sherriff’s Office wins traffic safety equipment

Recently, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office participated in the “Law Enforcement Challenge,” sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation during the 2007 calendar year according to Kevin Kelshaw in a media release to Historic City News this afternoon.

Visitors and Convention Bureau Communications Director, Jay Humphreys, reminded Historic City News that, with more than four centuries worth of spooky thrills and eerie encounters waiting in the shadows, St. Augustine is the place to be for Halloween thrills and chills.

Federal Point Road to close through February

Historic City News learned that the St. Johns County Public Works Department will close Federal Point Road in Hastings to all traffic beginning October 20, 2008, through approximately February 2009 for the bridge replacement project.

City’s reverse-osmosis water plant opened

In an an announcement from Cathy DuPont, Department of Public Affairs – City of St. Augustine, Historic City News learned that city officials will dedicate the new Water Treatment Plant in a ribbon cutting set for Wednesday, October 22nd at 10:00 a.m.

Street closings for Shriner’s Parade

Historic City News learned that a parade sponsored by the St. Augustine Shrine Club will be held along San Marco Avenue on Saturday, October 25 in conjunction with the St. Augustine Shrine Club Ceremonial.

Early voting schedule announced

In an announcement received by Historic City News from Jenny O’Dell, Director of Public Information & Voter Education for the St. Johns County Supervisor of Election, we received the schedule for the 2008 General Election.

As Election Day approaches, early voting begins and absentee ballots are distributed, it is with great thought that careful consideration that we ask citizens to cast their votes.
