A tax by any other name is still a tax
Collections of the “tax” that was first sold to St Johns County residents in 1986 as “the tax you will never have to pay” are up a half-million dollars over last year; that according to a report obtained by Historic City News on Friday.


Laurie Sanderson reported the following St. Augustine and St. Johns County locations to Historic City News where the Florida Department of Transportation will be conducting roadwork that is expected to have an impact on driving, beginning this morning and continuing through the coming week.
Public Information Officer Matthew Sara reported an industrial fire to Historic City News at about 12:44 p.m. today after St Johns County Fire Rescue crews responded to the Hydro-Aluminum plant located at 200 Riviera Boulevard in St Augustine.
All eyes will be on Andy Witt Monday when he appears before the St Johns County Tourist Development Council to present the Five-Year Strategic Plan and Annual Arts, Culture and Heritage Marketing Plan for Fiscal Year 2013.
Executive Director of the Visitor Convention Bureau, Richard Goldman, will present his report to members of the St Johns County Tourist Development Council Monday; local Historic City News reporters have been observing year-end activities of the private agency that is substantially funded by local-option sales taxes.
