Rained-out Route 66 episode will play July 16
Historic City News has been informed that Flagler College and the City of St Augustine have rescheduled the screening of an episode of the classic 1960’s television series, Route 66. Originally scheduled for June 6, the event was rained out by Tropical Storm Andrea, but will be shown July 16 — come rain or shine.



Civil Air Patrol Saint Augustine Composite Squadron Commander, Major Ralph Aviles, has announced that C/CMSgt Ben Henderson has been selected by the Air Force Sergeants Association as the Squadron Cadet of the Year.
Historic City News was informed that yesterday, after days of specialized training, 16-year-old volunteer Samantha Cosme, a student attending the summer cannon school at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, had the honor of firing a working cannon at St Augustine’s historic fort.

In 1968, when the sand dunes of Vilano Beach still outnumbered the houses, Frank Usina, his brother Jack, and his brother-in-law Bob Richmond, broke ground at 2750 Anahma Drive to build a simple, square-box, one-story wood-frame building whose greatest assets were cold beer, boiled local shrimp, Minorcan clam chowder, and a million-dollar view from an outdoor wooden deck that was as large as the building itself.
