Dear Editor, I just learned some very disturbing news.
Just because I happen to live with my four brothers and sisters in my mom’s two-bedroom Southside apartment, work at Taco Bell, and don’t have a car, some ignorant types assume that I don’t have much money.
In 1926, Dr. Carter G. Woodson initiated “Negro History Week” and, in 1976, the week-long observance was extended to the entire month of February.
Remember when you ended up stopping at a state park and it had one of those honor system pay booths; you weren’t carrying any cash and machine wouldn’t take an ATM, so you did the less than honorable thing and went in anyway, without paying?
In 1987, the Florida Legislature passed a firearms preemption statute to provide uniformity of gun laws — in fact; it is called the “Joe Carlucci Uniform Firearms Act.”
February 1, 2011, I can’t help imagining Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus and the other usual race-profiteering suspects; joyously awakening with a song in their hearts, “It’s The Most Wonderful Month of the Year”.
