In 1975, when Dewey Adelsperger retired from the State of Florida, where he worked as Director of Exhibition Buildings for the Historic St Augustine Preservation Board, he and his wife, Marjorie, established the Spanish Bakery. Last weekend, their son, Gene and his wife, Beth, closed the doors after its 38-year run.

Congressman Ron DeSantis, vice-chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Job Creation and Regulatory Affairs, informed local Historic City News reporters that St Augustine community banker, Eddie Creamer, testified today regarding the impact that Dodd-Frank is having on Prosperity Bank and their ability to serve Florida’s sixth congressional district.

When Historic City News reported last month’s new business licenses, it was with some celebration we noted Mellow Mushroom — a new adventure, built from scratch on Anastasia Boulevard, and a first for St Johns County diners who are already familiar with the several Mellow Mushroom restaurants around Jacksonville and the Beaches.
Since the St Johns County Commission voted the optional bed tax into being in 1986, it has been the subject of both praise and criticism; however, at yesterday’s meeting of the Tourist Development Council, St Johns Cultural Council Executive Andy Witt threw a curveball that drew catcalls from some members of the audience.
