Fugitive narrowly escapes capture
Sheriff David B Shoar reported to Historic City News today that deputies, acting on a tip, located and identified a 31 year-old St Johns County fugitive who is wanted for multiple felony charges as well as an outstanding warrant alleging aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
Private recycling services now available locally
These days, it’s hip to be green. For the average person, recycling is the easiest and most popular way to care for the planet we call home, but even this simple task can be made difficult by the lack of services in certain areas of St Augustine and St Johns County.
Last Castillo fee increase was seven years ago
Lindsey Phillips informed local Historic City News reporters that the adult admission fee at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument would increase from $6.00 to $7.00 effective January 1, 2012.
St Augustine K-mart one of 100 to be closed
Historic City News has learned from a report released earlier today by Sears Holdings Corp, that the K-mart located in Seabridge Square at 1777 US-1 South in St Augustine, is one of an estimated 100 to 120 Sears and K-mart stores that it plans to close.
Elijah Hoke Smith, Jr.
St Johns County resident, Hoke Smith, passed away at the age of 68 from injuries sustained in a helicopter accident in Clay County on December 26, 2011.

Historic Weapons Week through January 1
US Park Ranger Jeffrey Edel, Supervisor of Historic Weapons at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, reported to Historic City News that the week between Christmas and New Years’ Day has historically been the busiest of the year with attendance usually between 4000 and 6000 per day.
