In the Saturday issue of the St Augustine Report, publisher George Gardner continues to follow the activities of his North City neighborhood; galvanized against the proposed construction of a 7-Eleven convenience store and filling station on the long-vacant commercial lot at the intersection of May Street and San Marco Avenue.
The St. Johns County School District announced to Historic City News that a district-wide orientation will be held on Friday, August 16th from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Orientation is an opportunity for students and parents to get a supply list, class schedules, and meet teachers.
Dissatisfaction with a subjective process, allegedly rife with favoritism, has focused increasing attention on how St Johns County awards grants from the millions of dollars in bed tax money to certain non-profit organizations that provide programming and events of a cultural, artistic, or heritage nature.

Guard furlough days reduced

Adjutant General of Florida, Maj. Gen. Emmett Titshaw Jr., had good news as he addressed civilians and technician personnel of the Florida National Guard recently to announce further reductions in the number of required non-paid furlough days.
A recent entry in the Historic City News in Photos contest, sponsored by Computer Doctors, comes from Randolph Weedman of St Augustine — his subject was a rare albino male peacock which he discovered at the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park.
